Why Antonio Conte can lead Chelsea to the Premier League title

Last season was an anomaly for Chelsea Football Club.

The Blues struggled to get going in the early stages of the season and Jose Mourinho lost his job as a result of their poor run of results. Now, the Portuguese is plying his trade for Manchester United whilst former Italy national team manager Antonio Conte is prowling the touchline at Stamford Bridge.

And with Conte at the helm, Chelsea can get back to the top of English football. The Italian is widely regarded as one of the smartest and most intelligent tacticians in the business and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see the Blues bounce back and challenge for the Premier League title this season. On current form, there’s absolutely no reason why they cannot go on to lift the trophy despite their issues during the last twelve months.

As of September 7th, the Blues are valued at 5/1 to win the title in Betway ’s Premier League odds and plenty of Chelsea supporters will believe that they can do it with the “Italian Mourinho” in charge. And right now, you’d have to make them right.

Chelsea have won each of their opening three games this season and are currently leading the way with United and “noisy neighbours” Manchester City – and Conte will expect his troops to be there or thereabouts at the end of the campaign.

Earlier this summer, reports suggested that Diego Costa was set to leave Stamford Bridge but nothing concrete materialised. Instead, the Spain international has gone quietly about his business and has scored two vital goals in the dying embers of Chelsea’s fixtures with West Ham United and Watford to keep the Blues firmly in the title race.

If Conte can keep Costa focused  on the task at hand, the title is certainly within their reach... To be honest, the Chelsea number nine does push his luck at times and his aggressive approach could cost the club in their pursuit of the crown. He has already received two yellow cards this season and his ill-discipline could prove costly. After all, Conte will be relying on his star man to avoid suspensions – especially at key moments in the season...

The manager has already won Chelsea fans over with his passion, his desire and his hunger to succeed – three traits that will keep supporters on his side. Without a doubt, the Blues now have one of the most charismatic managers in the Premier League and it is only a matter of time before Conte begins to get under the skin of his rival bosses.

Only time will tell but the Italian's mind games and astute tactics – both on and off the field – may prove dividends in the title race.

If nothing else, his thorough approach on the training ground will benefit Chelsea in the long run; and the Blues will also prosper from the lack of Champions League football this season. Conte can place all of his focus on taking Chelsea back to the top of the domestic game  before attempting to succeed in Europe.

There will be plenty of twists along the way but early indications suggest that Conte’s Chelsea are more than capable of winning the title. The Blues have invested astutely this summer and Diego Costa has re-found his touch in front of goal. It may be a little early to start claiming that Chelsea’s name is on the trophy but the Stamford Bridge faithful are well within their rights to be excited at their chances of silverware in the coming months.
