Philando Castile's fiancée: Dallas shooting is 'bigger than us'

When one of the service's most viewed videos is of a black man being shot down to death by a police officer, it damn well should impact upon their decision, too.

Jackson says he wanted to "thank the governor for being forthright about the racial ramifications of the shooting".

The Castile shooting came hours after the U.S. Justice Department said it had opened an investigation into two police officers fatally shooting a black man in Baton Rouge, Louisianna, Tuesday. It's unclear at this point how exactly the stop proceeded, but an officer shot and killed Castile as his girlfriend and her young daughter sat in the auto with him. "The police took an innocent man away from us". In June, an Islamic State sympathizer posted a 12-minute propaganda video in which he threatened future attacks after killing a police commander and his partner in their home outside Paris. Authorities have not said why police stopped the vehicle. In January, the U.S. Embassy in Nassau put out a warning over crime in the Bahamian capital, which prompted complaints from business owners in the tourism dependent island nation. Castile was shot and killed after a traffic stop by police in Falcon Heights, Wednesday night. "Violence accomplishes nothing, peace must prevail".

Allysza and Castile's mother, Valerie, said they raced to the scene when friends watching his girlfriend's Facebook stream started calling.

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton said he wants a federal investigation.

Because of its small size, Falcon Heights is served primarily by the nearby St. Anthony Police Department.

Yanez lives in a two-story frame house on a cul-de-sac just north of St. Paul, where children were playing outside Friday.

The St. Anthony Police Department's 2015 annual report points to Yanez's volunteerism.

The previous year's report includes a photo of Yanez solemnly standing guard at a memorial to fallen officers at the state Capitol.

Messages left for the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the National Rifle Association were not immediately returned. Dayton waded through the crowd as protesters chanted: "What do we want?"

Diamond Reynolds, the girlfriend of Philando Castile of St. Paul, cries outside the governor's residence in St. Paul, Minn., on Thursday, July 7, 2016.

Officer Jeronimo Yanez went to Castile's door after stopping the auto, and is the one who shot Castile, the BCA reported.

Several videos, including squad vehicle video of the incident, have been collected, but St. Anthony officers don't wear body cameras, the statement said.

Dayton has emerged from his residence to talk with protesters several times this week. Clinton was going forward with a late afternoon appearance at the African Methodist Episcopal Convention in Philadelphia, where she planned to address the violence. She and her daughter were separated at the precinct, and she wasn't told until 3 a.m. that Castile had died.

Castile was shot Wednesday during a traffic stop. Brown also said no motive for the shooting had been uncovered yet.

In the video stream she posted live, Reynolds said her boyfriend had just told the officer he had a legal firearm and was retrieving his gun permit and driver's license from his wallet when the officer opened fire. Many in the crowd called for an immediate indictment of the officer involved, who the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension later identified as Jeronimo Yanez. Both were put on administrative leave, as is standard.

He has asked for a "prompt and thorough investigation" in Wednesday's shooting of Philando Castile, and they'll present the case to the prosecutor's office.

Protesters on Thursday urged Choi not to use a grand jury, arguing it's secretive and lets police officers off the hook.

And then, on Thursday night in Dallas, as a protest rally was winding down, chaos.

Diamond Reynolds said Friday on CNN that instead it's about all the people who have lost family members at the hands of police, including Trayvon Martin. Martin was shot and killed in 2012 in Florida by a neighborhood watch volunteer. The FBI said 199 law enforcement officers were killed between 2011 and 2014.

In what's being called the deadliest day for law enforcement since 9/11, five Dallas police officers, including one transit cop, were killed in what appears to have been a coordinated attack on Thursday night.

In Dallas, gunfire broke out while hundreds of people were gathered to protest against the fatal police shootings this week.

"St. Anthony Police Department officers do not wear body cameras", according to the statement. "Chemical irritant and marking rounds were used to stop unsafe criminal activity". No serious injuries were reported.

As many 300 people gathered peacefully at Summit Avenue. About 50 marchers headed back to the governor's residence overnight. At around 9 pm local time, multiple shots were fired from elevated positions, according to police.

Dayton all but called Castile's death in a St. Paul suburb an act of racism. "This has to stop, right now", she told the crowd.
