Back To The Future: Self-Tying Shoes Are Here

This new shoe has self-tightening laces.

The sneaker teased in the commercial above is called the Nike HyperAdapt 1.0, touted as "the first performance vehicle for Nike's latest platform breakthrough, adaptive lacing". Reduced slippage will also help athletes reaction time as constant pressure from shoes will give sportsmen the confidence to react as they think. Well, the shoes also light up. In fact, Nike is looking forward to develop this technology by gathering biometric data that can be fed into an entire adaptable, reactive ecosystem of Nike wearables. Still, the futuristic-by-way-of-1989 sneakers, dubbed the Nike Mag, will never actually hit store shelves.

Today you're going to see some self-lacing shoes from Nike the likes of which you've only ever seen in Back to the Future.

This innovation will be a huge advantage to athletes as it will save time and eliminate distraction caused by untied or loose laces. "Precise, consistent, personalized lockdown can now be manually adjusted on the fly", Nike says. Here's Nike's promo video for the shoes.

Nike expects the shoe to come in various sizes and for multi-purposes.

After a couple of wears, the shoes will automatically adjust to your preferred setting according to Hoke. "When I was ready to pull them off, I pressed a "-" (minus) button and the fit relaxed making them easy to pull off. It takes about three hours for a full charge.

To add some celebrity appeal, comedian Kevin Hart kicked off the event by cracking a few jokes and reiterating the Nike motto: "If you have a body, you are an athlete". And so he question really becomes "How much are you willing to pay in order to not bend down?"

As that saying goes, the future is now. The sensor could sense when the user needs to have the shoe tighter or looser. No word on price yet but it's probably safe to assume that you'll need to start shining up them pennies.
