Eagles hiring Doug Pederson as new head coach

The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to hire Doug Pederson to be its new head coach, according to Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News.

Doug Pederson is reportedly set to become the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.

He becomes the first Eagles head coach who also played for the team since Marion Campbell, who played for the Eagles from 1956 through 1961, started on the 1960 NFL Championship team and was head coach from 1983 through 1985.

He followed Reid to Kansas City in 2013 as offensive coordinator, and has earned more responsibility this year.

And the way the Eagles' search party arrived at Pederson made it seem like he was their third or fourth choice, with McAdoo and Tom Coughlin certainly ahead of him and probably Gase, too.

Regardless, the Eagles reached back into their back pocket and went back to the roots of their success and took the shiny red apple off of the Andy Reid coaching tree and tabbed Pederson as their head coach.

If Pederson and Eagles have come to a vocal agreement, Philadelphia needs to trust his word and wait for the season to pan out. "He's ready to do that and if he has that opportunity, more power to him".

On Sunday, a day after KC whipped Houston, 30-0, in the playoffs, Pederson interviewed to replace Chip Kelly.

Coughlin is a two-time Super Bowl champion who stepped down last week after 12 seasons with the New York Giants.

The Eagles are turning to a former Philadelphia quarterback as their next head coach. Pederson happens to be on former Eagles coach Andy Reid's staff and has been linked to Reid going as far back to his time with the Green Bay Packers. "Great offensive coordinator", said Anthony Mazzone. After enduring friction in the front office during Chip Kelly's three seasons in Philadelphia, the team should hope for a more harmonious setup when Pederson works with Howie Roseman, the executive vice president of football operations. There is also a strong possibility that Shurmur could be Pederson's offensive coordinator since the two have worked together previously. Quarterback Alex Smith, Pederson and the Chiefs bested Tom Brady and the Patriots in total yardage, rushing yardage and first downs.

The Eagles wouldn't confirm the impending hiring, saying only: "We have concluded our search for a head coach".

We'll find out today if this source turns out to be accurate or not as the Eagles will surely respond for end of the week news. He was with the Eagles for four years, before spending the past three seasons with the Chiefs. That time frame includes the Senior Bowl - a valuable week to evaluate prospects and network with other coaches - and comes during a ripe period to hire assistants.
